OBJECTIVES
AND POWERS OF THE INSTITUTE
Corporate
Objectives
6.
Within the terms of its mandate, and as specified by government
direction, the Institute will:
(a) initiate,
coordinate, support and conduct environmental research, monitor
effects and propose mitigation measures associated with the activities
of military training over Labrador and Québec consistent with
the results of the Environmental Assessment and Review.
b) foster
inclusion or incorporation of aboriginal environmental knowledge,
and cooperation in research and monitoring activities among DND,
scientific establishments, research institutions, consultants
and universities interested in the goals and objectives of the
Institute.
(c) promote
a better understanding and flow of information with the public
on the work of the Institute.
Powers
7.
(1) The Institute, in furtherance of its objects, may
exercise any or all of the following powers, namely the power
to:
(a) establish,
maintain and manage information data banks for research, monitoring
and other activities relevant to its objectives
(b) sponsor
or support conferences, seminars and other meeting
(c) expend,
for the purposes of its approved activities, funds received by
the Institute;
(d) publish
and otherwise disseminate scientific, technical, aboriginal environmental
knowledge, or other information to interested parties.
(2) The Institute
will serve as an advisory body to the Ministers and, as such,
it has no role in areas of federal and provincial jurisdictions.
