Bruce Turner


Bruce Turner is a graduate of Memorial University of Newfoundland completing a Bachelors of Science Degree in 1972 and a Masters of Science in 1974. Upon graduation in 1974, Mr. Turner joined the Canadian Wildlife Service in Edmonton and for the next two decades designed and implemented the waterfowl management program in Alberta. During this tenure, Mr. Turner gained extensive knowledge and experience in population management and research, conducting waterfowl projects across Alberta, in the Canadian Arctic and in the interior Highlands of Mexico. In 1994, Mr. Turner became Head, Environmental Conservation Branch of Environment Canada for Newfoundland and Labrador, managing the offices of the Canadian Wildlife Service and implementing a broad range of programs including migratory bird management, species at risk, environmental assessment, aboriginal liaison, marine pollution and environmental emergencies. Having coordinated and lead the Environment Canada input during the Labrador Inuit and Innu Nation Land Claims, Mr. Turner has considerable experience on the elements of both claims, the respective jurisdictional responsibilities arising from it, and the land claims process generally. Mr. Turner retired in 2006 and afterwards joined the Scientific Review Committee. Recently he served as the federal representative on the Torngat Wildlife and Plants Co-management Board, which was established pursuant to the Labrador Inuit Land Claim Agreement. Mr. Turner resides in Pouch Cove, NL.
